Having one young child and another on the way, this family was quickly outgrowing their existing home. With universal accessibility in mind, the couple decided to add the Master Bedroom Suite at the same level as the front entry and living room, about half a floor up from the adjacent sloping grade. By building out the unfinished level below, the addition square footage is efficiently doubled. A new circulation zone incorporating the existing garage entry and new stair allows garage access without the need to step outdoors.
The lower existing garage roof posed a design challenge for connecting between the higher levels of the existing home and addition. This solution involved increasing the height of a portion of the garage roof to match the existing roof and slope, and connecting the new addition while maintaining adequate slopes and positive drainage throughout.
